The United States is a nation full of socialist tendencies, its just a matter of where and how.
Take for example this newly released report that demonstrates a huge amount of waste by our Department of Defense -we’re talking tens of millions of dollars – with zero accountability. It’s not a new story unfortunately, there are other examples of monstrous monetary waste by our military and the consistent behavior is costing US taxpayers. We are a nation of socialized waste.
Because there’s some confusion over what socialism really is, I’ll provide a definition of the word for a foundation: socialism is merely an economic system wherein government has control of the production and distribution of services (or goods), and where government interferes with free-market economic processes in the form of regulations to provide balance to the system.
With all the rhetoric we hear about how awful socialism is for our country, we actually participate in it in ways that we aren’t necessarily aware of. In the case of our military, half of our federal tax dollars supports this important public service of national defense, thus making our military the most socialized institution we support as taxpayers. When reports such as the one from SIGAR are published, we realize that we not only socialize the defense of our borders, we socialize great waste in the name of defending our borders.
Socialism isn’t a bad word. It isn’t a slippery slope to communism. It isn’t a road that will pave the way for the anti-christ. Socialism is merely a form of economic system where services are provided by the government yet publicly owned through paid federal taxes. We support our military with half of every dollar we send to the national coffers, the military seems to waste the monies we send them at an expert level.
The Republic will vote again in just twelve short months from now. We will hear a lot more about the word socialism because one candidate isn’t afraid of its meaning. Neither should we citizens be afraid of its meaning, its role in our system, and the balance it brings to a free market economy. We are already a socialized nation, its just a matter of where and how. #vote2016
